Holger Rune revealed an uncomfortable incident with one of the spectators during his latest win at the 2025
Roland Garros.
Rune played a French player, Quentin Halys, in his most recent match at this year's Roland Garros. Playing a home player at the French Open is never easy, but regardless of who someone plays, they should never feel unsafe on the court.
Whenever an incident where a player might look threatened happens, everybody quickly remembers the incident from 1993 when Monika Seles was stabbed on the court.
That's why Rune felt it was important to speak about his incident after beating Halys in the third round, 4-6, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. The Danish player revealed that he had asked one of the supervisors to remove the spectator in question.
Rune also explained how the situation came to be. After a lost rally, the Danish player slammed his towel into his towel box in anger, and for some reason, one of the spectators aggressively confronted him.
That made the
ATP World No. 10 player uncomfortable, which is why he asked for the spectator to be removed from the stands. That happened after the people in charge checked the camera footage to confirm the player's words.
"I was [getting] my towel, and I put my towel down in the box, and the guy was getting aggressive with me, he reached out for me, and I thought that was very strange, because I didn't do anything against him, and he should not interact with the player on the court. It's a bit embarrassing, I think."
"So, I told the supervisor that I would prefer him not being there, because it was a bit uncomfortable. They said they would check the video, and if that was true what I said, they would get him out. So I think they checked it, and I didn't see him for the rest of the match."
"It's not a nice feeling when the crowd is getting aggressive with you when I basically did nothing. I'm allowed to hit the towel into my towel box, I didn't do anything against him."
Rune will want to forget this incident, and luckily for him, he won't have to play another French player at this year's Roland Garros, as there are no more French players left in the men's singles draw after Arthur Fils' withdrawal.
In the fourth round, the Danish player will take on Lorenzo Musetti, who is the eighth-seeded player in the draw. The winner of this match will then take on either Frances Tiafoe or Daniel Altmaier.
