Ons Jabeur's comeback to the tennis courts will have to wait, as she announced she's expecting her first child with her husband Karim Kamoun.
Jabeur hasn't played much tennis in recent years. After ending every season from 2021 until 2023 in the Top 10, she has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. She missed the second half of the 2024 season and ended her
2025 season early after saying she had struggled to feel happy on the court.
Now, it's clear that the former
WTA world No. 2 and three-time Grand Slam finalist won't return to the tennis courts anytime soon. In an Instagram post, Jabeur announced she will become a mother, expecting her first child with her husband, Karim Kamoun.
Jabeur and Kamoun created a playful video, with Kamoun holding a baby tennis racket and Jabeur showing a Wimbledon-themed baby bodysuit. The comments were quickly flooded with congratulatory messages, with the likes of Caroline Garcia, Paula Badosa, Anett Kontaveit, Katie Boulter, Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki, Barbora Krejcikova, Belinda Bencic, Bianca Andreescu, and many more WTA stars celebrating the news.
In a short caption, Jabeur also announced the baby's gender and due date. She is expecting a baby boy in April 2026, which means it's very likely the Tunisian player will also miss the entire 2026 season, but that's certainly the last thing on her mind at the moment.
"Took a little break to reset and recharge… Turns out, we’ve been planning the cutest comeback ever. The court will have to wait a little longer, because soon… We’ll be welcoming our tiniest teammate. Baby boy joining the team in April."
Jabeur honestly spoke about starting a family before
Jabeur spoke about starting a family during the first season of Netflix's Break Point. The show included a moment from the Tunisian's hotel room, where her husband, holding a camera, told Jabeur to tell him "more about babies."
Jabeur said that she couldn't wait to have a baby. When asked by her husband whether she would want "her" to play tennis, the two-time Wimbledon finalist responded that she wants a boy so her dreams will finally come true.
"I love babies, and we both do, and hopefully one day we can have a mini Karim or mini Ons. We both cannot wait for that day. It will be a victory for both of us. It's one of our goals, hopefully, after a very good career."
The Madrid Open champion then spoke about how challenging it is for women in sports to start a family, as it's difficult just to stop their career.
"Women make a lot of sacrifices. If you want to have a child, you cannot just go and have a child, you have to sacrifice something you love. I wish I were a man, I want to have a baby. Done."
