Christopher Eubanks unexpectedly announced his retirement from professional tennis at 29.
Eubanks made his ATP main-draw debut at the 2015 Atlanta Open as a 19-year-old, but it took him some time to fully establish himself on the ATP Tour, as he was one of the players who took the college route, playing for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
By 2018, Eubanks was already a Top 200 player, but he hovered around that rank for a few seasons. That was until, out of nowhere, he made it to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2023. It was the run of his life, which included wins over the likes of Cameron Norrie and Stefanos Tsitsipas, before he lost to Daniil Medvedev in a five-setter.
That run earned Eubanks enough points to play all the big tournaments in the following 12 months. He was even among the seeded players at the US Open, but despite this unexpected career boost, the American player wasn't able to fully establish himself in the Top 50.
Eubanks ended the 2025 season ranked outside the Top 200, and after his season ended, the 29-year-old announced the end of his professional tennis career.
"If you had told this little boy from the Southside of Atlanta that he would’ve accomplished all that he did, he wouldn’t believe you. 2 Time ACC Player of the Year? Yeah right. Wimbledon Quarter-finalist? No chance. An Olympian? Unfathomable."
"I was given the opportunity to travel around the world and form incredible relationships, all while fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing professional tennis. I can’t put into words how blessed I have been. Is this absolutely the end?! Tough to say for certain, but if it is, WHOOPTY DOO!!! It’s been an incredible ride."
Eubanks certainly inspired many players with his run at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, and being a Grand Slam quarter-finalist and an Olympian is something that no one will ever take away from him.

What's next for Christopher Eubanks after retiring from tennis

There has never been a clearer answer to the "what's next" question after a retirement than this time. Eubanks has already gained thousands of fans as a commentator and analyst during his playing career, and it's expected he will continue on this path.
It's expected that Eubanks will turn to a full-time commentator and analyst, a role many think was tailor-made for him, given how he excels with a microphone.
Apart from that, the 29-year-old American will still likely be seen around the Tour, mostly due to his career as a commentator, but also hanging out with former colleagues, as he is one of the most popular players.
