Carlos Alcaraz surprisingly lost his opening match at the 2025
Paris Masters, and after the loss, he tried to explain what happened on the court.
Alcaraz is one of the top two favorites to win every tournament he enters. The other favorite is, of course, Jannik Sinner. As the two highest-ranked players in the world, they most often appear on the opposite sides of a draw, with their final matchup being the one fans anticipate the most.
This time, they won't have a chance to see them meet at the
ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris, as Alcaraz lost already in his first match to Cameron Norrie. It was a shocking loss, even more so since the Spaniard won the first set quite easily.
Alcaraz ultimately lost the match 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, exiting the last Masters event of the year already in the second round (his first match). The 22-year-old was one of the first players to arrive at the new venue and practice, which is why it surprised him that he didn't feel well on the court at all.
"Well, I just I didn't feel well today. A lot of mistakes. I had no feeling at all. I think Norrie played really great tennis today, as well. Solid match. And I think that was the key."
"I had a lot of practices here, which I was feeling great, feeling amazing, moving on the court, hitting the ball. I had all the ideas clear, all the goals clear. But today, even in the first set, even though I won, I just felt like I could do much more than what I did."
"I tried in the second set just to be better, but it was totally the opposite. I just feel even worse. I think I have to give credit to Cam, as well, because I think he didn't let me stay or come back to the match. I had a few breakpoints, which I would say could have been really helpful for me. I didn't take it with really easy mistakes. I'm really disappointed about my level today, and it is what it is."
Carlos Alcaraz explains his plans for the upcoming weeks after his shocking Paris loss
Alcaraz has two more events planned for the remainder of the season. He will compete at the ATP Finals, and then, he will try to help his country lift the trophy at the Davis Cup Finals. His focus in the upcoming days will be on those two events.
"I will try to prepare myself as better as I can, coming to Turin, coming to Davis Cup, really important tournaments that I have ahead right now. Right now I just want to be back home, and let's see what's I gonna do. But of course I'm gonna practice and prepare myself, and obviously I will try not let this thing happen again."
