The 2025 Bucharest Open will take place during the opening week of the ATP Clay court season, from 31 March to 6 April, and the entry list has been released.
Last year's iteration of the tournament was the first since 2016. It had previously been played from 1993, with Elena Rybakina's former coach Goran Ivanisevic, David Ferrer, Grigor Dimitrov, and the recently retired Fernando Verdasco among the winners.
Marton Fucsovics was last year's champion. He defeated Mariano Navone 6-4, 7-5 in the final after being more consistent and clinical during the important moments of the match in Romania.
Fucsovics is not on the main draw entry list. However, the defending champion is second on the alternates list and could also get a wild card into the tournament after his superb run to the title last year.
2024 runner-up Navone ranking is good enough to be on the main draw entry list. The Argentine usually plays his best tennis on clay and undoubtedly targets ATP 250 clay tournaments like the Bucharest Open to try to win a title.
Sebastian Baez, one of the most prominent clay court specialists on the ATP Tour, is the highest-ranked player on the entry list. He played superbly on his favorite surface during the recent Golden Swing in South America.
Baez won the Rio Open for the second consecutive year, defeating Alexandre Muller in the final. That was the seventh ATP title of his career, six of them on clay. The one exception was triumphing on a hard court in Winston-Salem.
The 24-year-old backed up that achievement in Rio by making the Chile Open final the following week. He and Laslo Djere had an epic battle in the final, which the Serbian ultimately won 7-5 in the deciding set.
Flavio Cobolli might fancy his chances of winning a maiden ATP title in Bucharest. Although all players on the entry list deserve respect, there are no Top 20 players on it currently, creating opportunities for others.
The 22-year-old is a rising star on the ATP Tour and possesses one of the most powerful forehands in the sport. If he plays his best tennis, he has a chance of reigning supreme in Bucharest.
Nicolas Jarry is also on the entry list, but he might not be able to play. The Chilean withdrew from the ongoing 2025 Indian Wells Open with a toe injury. He did not reveal how severe that injury was, generating uncertainty at this stage.
Veteran Roberto Bautista Agut is another man on the Bucharest Open entry list. Despite being 36 and suffering some injuries in recent years, the Spaniard continues to compete well and does not look like he wants to retire anytime soon.
Bautista Agut reached the semifinal of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships when near his prime. He is still a gritty competitor who does not make it easy for any opponent by hitting consistently and solidly from the baseline.
Other players on the Bucharest Open entry list include Fabian Marozsan, Botic van de Zandschulp, Pedro Martinez, and Miomir Kecmanovic.
