"Wimbledon doesn't care what looks cool" - Kyrgios on traditions and rules

Wimbledon has long been one of Nick Kyrgios' favourite tournaments, but that does not stop there being aspects that the Aussie is not a fan of.

The 2022 Australian Open doubles champion is all-out, preparing for the tournament in SW19, with all focus on his play. Having recently shown formidable form, he has been pipped as someone who could do some real damage to the bigger names, with the draw also favouring him.

However, before the start of the tournament, he was asked by journalists about his opinions on the All England Club. As is customary with the man from Down Under, he did not mince his words.

"I wasn't a type of player to watch a much tennis when I was young. But the first time I stepped out on [the Centre Court] was in 2015. Obviously I have good memories on that court. It's an amazing court, special energy about it. So many different personalities stepped out there and achieved some amazing things."

"I always wanna wear all black, obviously. I don't think it's something that it's going to change. I think it would be cool to allow a black headband or black sweatpants. I think it would look cool, but obviously Wimbledon doesn't really care what looks cool."

All the while respecting and admiring The Championships, Kyrgios was keen to make his voice heard over the tournament's longstanding traditions. However, with players voicing similar opinions in the past, another comment from the Aussie is unlikely to change anything upstairs.

Despite not being a fan of the rules, this has not prevented him from being a threat in the past. His fast-paced, heavy serve have always made him a threat on the grass of Centre Court. It is also where he broke onto the scene in the tennis world, upsetting Nadal, impressing with his fearless playing style.
