Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev had a really heated clash in Monte-Carlo recently with their feud continuing after the match as well.
It was a heated clash, one where Zverev really struggled to finish things off and he had plenty of chances ultimately allowing the Russian to win. Medvedev had some questionable moments in the match prompting the German to call him an unfair player.
It split the community as some considered it disrespectful while others thought it was funny. Pundits got involved as well with some suggesting that it's just how Medvedev is, real and not perfect as every human.
Zverev and Medvedev continued to feud off the court as well though to some it was very hilarious overall. Now, they are set to meet in Rome after the German beat J.J. Wolf, but Medvedev revealed at the 2023 Italian Open that they're cool.
Talking about Monte-Carlo [incident], we talked about it afterwards, so I think everything is fine. Yeah, seems like everything is fine for both of us. You know, I lost a match against Holger [Rune] when I was speaking about this incident, he lost a match against me. It happens. So I think we're fine but it doesn't mean that if we're playing tomorrow, there's not going to be something. You never know. We're both competitors.
It will be interesting to see what kind of match we get because the court plays rather similarly and last time Zverev was on top for the most part but he started to get nervous towards the end.
The incident might be behind it but neither has forgotten about it and there might be an added edge to both of them as they look to go further at the Italian Open. Medvedev thinks it's exciting, especially after the last two 'crazy' ones.
Could be exciting. I mean, all of our matches are exciting, the last two were crazy — Indian Wells and Monte-Carlo. We hadn't played for a long time, he was injured and actually, we didn't play in 2022 at all, I guess. And that's a little bit crazy because we have played like 15 times already.
