Some tennis fans see the sport much differently than the athletes and a recent interaction between one of them and Stan Wawrinka was a prime example of that.
Despite being already past his prime, the three-time Grand Slam champion is still battling it out at ATP events, and every now and then, he turns the clock and shows his undeniable qualities. Recently, Wawrinka has been playing quite well, when he helped his country to beat Germany at the Davis Cup.
After the successful Davis Cup appearance, the Swiss moved to the Netherlands for the 2023 Rotterdam Open, where he started thanks to a protected ranking, which qualified him directly for the main draw.
In the first two rounds, the Swiss player was quite dominant. First, he defeated Alexander Bublik in two sets, and then, he outplayed fellow veteran Richard Gasquet in just an hour and 17 minutes.
In-form Wawrinka awaited the winner of the match between the first-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, as the young Italian stunned the Greek in the 2nd round match to set up a clash with former world no. 3.
One of the fans thought that Sinner's performances were so impressive, that Wawrinka should not even compete against him, as he stated:
"Wawrinka should just default loss and save his energy for next tourney lol. He has no chance."
Obviously, like many other users, Wawrinka found this statement quite disrespectful and unreasonable and provided a very funny response to the user along with a winky emoji.
"I will get a lesson for free at least."
