Alexander Zverev was very frustrated during his match against Sebastian Baez at the 2022 Roland Garros, and the Parisian crowd did not forgive yelling at his box.
The German player hopes to show his clay-court qualities at the 2022 Roland Garros, but to do so, he needs to win matches with confidence, and that was certainly not the case against the Argentinian.
Down 2-6 and serving on break point in the first game of the second set, Zverev attempted to hit a big second serve to surprise his opponent. Yet, the ball went wide, and Baez was gifted a break without having to work hard.
Zverev was annoyed with his box and started yelling across the court, his father seemingly being the intended target. He continued that as he walked to that side of the court, still yelling at his father.
The crowd took exception and showered him with boos. He and his father had heated exchanges before, so it wasn't anything new, but it wasn't a moment that the French crowd would appreciate.
In the very next game, the German player once again showed his displeasure after he had an easy overhead to hit, which he sent wide, helping his opponent win a game once again.
After two sets, Zverev was down 2-6, 4-6, but he increased his level significantly in the following two sets, winning them 6-1, 6-2 to force the decider in the second round of the 2022 Roland Garros after beating Sebastian Ofner in the opening round.
However, he still faced a match point in the third set, when Baez was close to causing an upset at the French Open, but eventually, Zverev stayed calm and composed, winning the match 2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the third round of the 2023 Roland Garros, where he will Brandon Nakashima who best Tallon Griekspoor in the second round.
