Lorenzo Musetti was dominant in his semifinal match at the 2022 Hamburg Open against Francisco Cerundolo, but almost lost his lead after an unsuccessful underarm serve.
The 20-years-old Italian enjoys a great week in Hamburg as he reached a final of the event. In the semifinals, he defeated Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 7-6(3), but he was serving for a match when the scoreboard showed 5-4 in the second set.
After previously facing a breakpoint in the tenth game of the second set, Lorenzo Musetti finally had his first match point of the match. However, he decided to hit an underarm serve and that wasn't a good decision.
Cerundolo won the point and eventually broke his serve. Set reached the tie-break but it was eventually Musetti who prevailed. After the match, he commented on the situation, when he said:
"I saw him so far from the baseline on the ad side. I don't know why I did the underarm serve, but it didn't work. At the end I didn't take the option of the underarm serve. I went for the kick and serve-and-volley and it worked. So I'm really happy."
