Novak Djokovic was a victim of a very unfortunate incident after his first match at the 2024 Italian Open.

Everything went well on the tennis court for the 36-year-old Serbian in his first match of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome. He bested Corentin Moutet in two sets without facing any major difficulties.

As is customary, after the match, the 24-time major winner went on to sign some autographs for some of the fans, but that turned into a disaster very quickly, as he was hit by a metal bottle.

When signing the autographs, a hard bottle suddenly came out of nowhere, hitting exactly the top of Djokovic's head, who immediately collapsed to the ground, guarded by one of the security members.

Immediately after the incident, the tournament organizers confirmed that Djokovic was taken to the hospital, and a video started circulating social media, before another video appeared.

"Novak Djokovic on leaving the Central court at the end of his match was accidentally hit on the head by a water bottle while signing autographs to spectators. He underwent appropriate medication and has already left the Foro Italico to return to his hotel; his condition is not a cause for concern."

First, it was not clear how the water bottle ended up on Djokovic's head, and some fans even went as far as speculating that someone may have purposefully tried to his the world no. 1.

Soon after those rumors started swirling around, tournament organizers immediately acted, releasing another video, which proved that what happened at Foro Italico was a pure accident.

One of the fans, bending over the railing in an attempt to greet his idol, had a backpack on his back, in which he had the bottle, and as he bent over the railing, the bottle fell out of his backpack, unfortunately hitting Djokovic.
