After a dramatic match against Hubert Hurkacz in the first round of the 2022 Wimbledon, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina crashed out of the tournament in an unusual way.
First, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina chose a very weird way to end his match against Hubert Hurkacz in the first round when he decided to play a tweener on a triple match point. That went terribly wrong as he soon found himself down a break in the fifth set after being up by two sets and serving for a match.
Yet, the Spaniard managed to win the match and could advance into the third round as he faced Jiri Vesely from Czech Republic. After losing the first set, everything went well for Davidovich Fokina in the next two and he had also three break points in the fourth to seal the match.
However, he couldn't use them and got broken later in the set and so the match reached the super tie-break in the fifth set. Having experience with this type of finish from his match against Hurkacz, the young Spaniard hoped to do well against the Czech player. Yet, he found himself 7-8 down and had two serves.
After making an unforced error on his first serve, Davidovich Fokina faced two match points, but he didn't get to serve again as he got a point penalty for ball abuse and so the match ended in a very unusual style. The Spaniard then discussed the situation with the umpire and also remained in his chair for quite a long time after the match ended.
