Nicolas Jarry wasn’t good enough to stop the defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas from winning his second match at the Monte-Carlo Masters this year.

Last year’s Monte-Carlo Masters champion Tsitsipas continued his title defense run by beating Jarry in two sets. It was a very tricky match for the Greek player because Jarry is the type of player who can give Tsitsipas problems.

He has a powerful serve and hits the ball really hard from both sides. If he plays his best possible tennis, he can give many players problems, and Tsitsipas isn’t quite immune to the super-aggressive style of play.

Still, in this match, the Greek player once again proved why the courts in Monte-Carlo are just great for him. It’s a slow court, neutralizing his backhand weaknesses, and it just gives him the time to really set up his forehand.

The opening set was one in which Tsitsipas attacked well while minimizing the amount of errors. Jarry had massive problems on his second serve, as Tsitsipas exploited the weaker power, attacking him with great success.

That was more than enough to win the opening set, as Tsitsipas himself didn’t really offer any break points. The second set was a bit more competitive because Jarry played much better.

He didn’t really struggle as much on his own serve although it wasn’t really a clean set either. He still offered chances to Tsitsipas, but the Greek player used only one of those to break.

On his own serve, Tsitsipas struggled a tiny bit as well. He struggled more than he did in the opening set and offered two break points to Jarry, but the Chilean player didn’t take them, allowing Tsitsipas to win in straight sets.

The defending champion made it to the quarter-finals, and he's now only three matches away from a title defense. After the match, Tsitsipas was happy with his performance.

"I had to deal with a few [tough] points, especially when he had break points. I dealt with those situations very maturely and played precisely, so it was great out there."
"He’s someone that has had good results on clay, someone that can serve big as well. It was all sort of played in the small details, and I’m really happy that I pulled through and gave myself such a good ending to this match."
