Tsitsipas Parts Ways With Philippoussis 'As Decided Before' After Disappointing US Open Exit

Stefanos Tsitsipas has parted ways with Mark Philippoussis once more, as the two agreed before starting their collaboration this time.

The journey of Tsitsipas and Philippoussis together has been a rather interesting one, to say the least. They first started working together last year in order for the former player to help Tsitsipas with his grass tennis, and it worked.

He won a trophy on grass in Mallorca and then had a solid at Wimbledon. Philippoussis would stay as part of the team, but they parted ways earlier this year after a run of bad results. Then Philippoussis rejoined the team again as the primary coach of Tsitsipas - his father got 'off time'.

A few days ago, Tsitsipas confirmed that his father will always be his coach and as you might imagine the news of Tsitsipas and Philippoussis parting ways is coming out now. It seems like the US Open disappointment had nothing to do with it because the parting was apparently agreed on before the event.

The idea to bring Mark was mine. Our collaboration for this summer ended here. It was something we had decided before. From now on I will continue with my own team in which my father is also [present].

I hope to play like I did at the beginning of the year and finish with a higher rating than I have now. The truth is that now I have fallen enough, this week I had a chance because I didn't have many points to defend.

The coaching situation of Tsitsipas has been a talking point in tennis circles for a while, and it only intensified after that Italian Open fiasco. Many chimed in with their own suggestion of what needs to happen, but Tsitsipas seemingly has a plan, so let's see what happens.

Indoor season has been solid for him over the years so perhaps he turns it around.
