Stefanos Tsitsipas has parted ways with Mark Philippoussis once more, as the two agreed before starting their collaboration this time.
The journey of Tsitsipas and Philippoussis together has been an interesting one, to say the least. They first started working together last year, with the former player helping with his tennis on the grass courts, and initially, it seemed that their partnership worked well.
He won a trophy on grass in Mallorca and then had a solid run at Wimbledon. Philippoussis stayed as part of the team, but
they parted ways earlier this year after a run of bad results.
Then
Philippoussis rejoined the team again as the primary coach of Tsitsipas, after his father, Apostolos, took some time away from the Greek player's team.
A few days ago,
Tsitsipas confirmed that his father will always be his coach, and now, he confirmed that he parted ways with Philippoussis as his coach. It seems the disappointment at the
US Open was unrelated to this decision, as the parting was apparently agreed upon before the event.
"The idea to bring Mark was mine. Our collaboration for this summer ended here. It was something we had decided before. From now on I will continue with my own team in which my father is also [present]."
"I hope to play like I did at the beginning of the year and finish with a higher rating than I have now. The truth is that now I have fallen enough, this week I had a chance because I didn't have many points to defend."
Tsitsipas' coaching situation has been a talking point in tennis circles for a while, and it only intensified after the Greek player clashed with his parents during matches. Many chimed in with their suggestions of what needs to happen, but Tsitsipas seems to have a plan.
