Tsitsipas Extends Winning Streak To Eight Matches To Reach Barcelona Open Quarter-Final

Stefanos Tsitsipas has now won eight matches in a row, continuing to be dominant on clay and booking the 2024 Barcelona Open quarter-final.

Tsitsipas, of course, is no stranger to doing really well on clay, having won three ATP Masters 1000 titles on the surface, including the recently concluded Monte-Carlo Masters.

He also played in the Roland Garros final a few years ago, so winning streaks on clay are nothing new to him. He has another one after winning his second match in Barcelona.

The number of wins is now at 8, as he's only three matches away from yet another trophy. His third-round opponent was Roberto Carballes Baena, a very experienced player who can play very well on clay.

Tsitsipas saw some of that in their meeting, as it took him a really long time before he finally won the opening set. He had some break chances early but didn't use them, only to get broken first.

He would break back immediately after that, so it was 3-3 midway through. We didn't see many chances after that, but eventually, Tsitsipas did get it done, winning the first set 7-5.

His serve was a major weapon, especially when tennis looked less sharp. The second set opened with some chances for the Spaniard, but Tsitsipas was able to save them and spare himself unnecessary complications.

The few games after that went by without any complications for either player. The Greek player could still cruise through his games, while Carballes Baena ran into some minor problems at 3-2, which ultimately proved to be major ones when he got broken after a very long game.

Tsitsipas would then make it 5-2 and, from there, cruise to the finish line. The final score was 7-5, 6-3, which is a pretty solid win for the Greek, who is looking like the player to beat in Barcelona.
