Andy Murray has unveiled his plans for the 2023 season, which is set to be a mostly full tour of the calendar, including another bout at his home Grand Slam, Wimbledon.
Speaking in a recent interview with 'Hello Magazine', the three-time major champion spoke was asked what fans can expect of him next year. The response will be welcome news.
"I've got a pretty busy schedule planned," said Murray. "I'll be kicking off the year in Australia which I always really enjoy. I'll be playing a tournament out there, and then the Australian Open. After that I'll be doing some more hard-court tournaments, then hopefully the clay, and then back to the UK for the grass-court season."
When asked about Wimbledon, Murray replied, "Yes, that's the plan".
Reflecting on another full year back on tour following major hip reconstruction surgery in January 2019, Murray was optimistic, "For now, I'm still focused on playing tennis and winning matches," he said. "I've been pleased with my progress this year, but there are definitely some areas to improve on. I'll be doing a training block in December so we'll be hoping to identify some of those areas and work on them, so hopefully I can get some more wins under my belt next year".
The former double Olympic Gold singles champion has had a mixed year. It started on a promising note, as he made the final of an ATP event in Sydney, before falling in disappointing fashion in the second round of the Australian Open the following week.
Despite failing to get past the third round of a Grand Slam, or win a title this year, the general trajectory has been one of steady improvement.
2023 will be a big year for Andy. It feels as though if he really is to get back to the top of the game, the big strides towards that goal must be taken in the next twelve months.
