17-year-old Joao Fonseca has been making headlines so far this season, and he will have a chance to do so again at the Bucharest Open.

Fonseca's talent has been known by many in the tennis world for some time. He won the US Open Juniors title last year, demonstrating the immense talent he possesses quite clearly to those that were watching.

This season saw the Brazilian make his first breakthrough on the ATP Tour. As a wildcard, he progressed to the quarterfinal of the Rio Open, defeating 2022 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Cristian Garin along the way.

His young age has not prevented Fonseca from having a strong personality. For instance, he was one of the many players left unhappy about the court conditions at the Chile Open, which is another tournament he got a wildcard for.

Fonseca also received a wildcard into the Estoril Open draw last week. Tournament directors are clearly noticing his immense talent and the big future he is likely to have in the sport.

The Bucharest Open has now been added to that list. This is the fourth wildcard that Fonseca has accepted this season, giving him another chance to gain some points. His current ranking is No. 292.

Fonseca is a very exciting addition to the event. It is important to get as many players as possible who will attract fans. This is particularly the case after Gael Monfils withdrew from the Bucharest Open.

Receiving four wildcards in one season seems like a lot at first glance. However, it has been reported that Brazilian was also offered wildcards for the big Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.

Fonseca rejected those, deciding he wanted to continue to play on clay. The fact he was in a position to reject these shows just how valued he already is at such a young age.
