Stefanos Tsitsipas will play in the final of the 2022 Italian Open in Rome after he defeated Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals.
The first semi-final of the 2022 Italian Open in Rome was played on Saturday between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev. The two met at both previous ATP Masters 1000 events on clay this season and completed it with the last clay-court Masters event in the Italian capital.
In their first meeting this year, at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, it was the young Greek who was more successful and later lifted the trophy.
On the other hand, in Madrid, it was Zverev who triumphed and played in the final against Carlos Alcaraz, even though he ultimately lost the final match against the young Spaniard.
In their third meeting, they both started with very solid performances on their service games, as fans didn't see a breakpoint until the seventh game of the first set.
Zverev was the first and only player in the set to have one and he succeeded in converting it to win the first set 6-4. In the second set, Tsitsipas was the first one to strike as he quickly grabbed a 3-0 lead.
Later, he had a chance to go 5-1 up, but he failed to convert two break points in the sixth game. That didn't stop him from winning the set and making it level before going to the deciding third set.
In the third set, both players started very solid on their serve once again. However, in the fifth game, Tsitsipas used his opportunity to break Zverev and added one more break later on to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In the final of the 2022 Italian Open in Rome, he will play against the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud.
