Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios might have plenty in common, but their relationship has seen better days.

The two players both have Greek roots. While Tsitsipas obviously represents Greece, as he's Greek from his father's side and Russian from his mother's, Kyrgios also has Greek roots.

His father, George, is of Greek origin, while his mother, Norlaila, is Malay. That could certainly give the two ATP players plenty to bond over, and initially, it seemed like they did.

When they first met at the 2019 Citi Open in Washington, Tsitsipas had an issue with his shoelaces. His shoes had to be brought to his dad and then brought back to the Greek player.

Kyrgios then funnily assisted Tsitsipas, recreating the Cinderella story, bringing his rival his shoes and funnily bowing down. Since then, however, their relationship got much worse.

The match to blame is their meeting at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Historically, Kyrgios has had the upper hand against Tsitsipas, beating him in three out of their four meetings before the two met at SW19.

At Wimbledon, Kyrgios won again, but the match was charged with plenty of drama. At one point, Tsitsipas hit the ball out of the court, hitting one of the spectators, after which the Australian demanded for his opponent to be disqualified.

Tsitsipas then took aim at Kyrgios, and after the match, he admitted that he wanted to hit his opponent with one of his smashes. Now, when talking about their relationship, Tsitsipas stated that it was Kyrgios who "broke it," saying that he "didn't do anything."

"He was the one who broke our relationship. I didn’t do anything. In 2022 Wimbledon I was only trying to compete, while he was playing the clown. It also depends on how he wakes up each day."
