Nick Kyrgios' recent knee surgery was successful, according to his manager Daniel Horsfall.

Kyrgios was unable to compete in the 2023 Australian Open due to a cyst growth in his knee that followed a meniscus tear injury. The 27-year-old had a surgical procedure in Canberra, Australia last week to remove the cyst from, which Horsfall said went to plan.

“The surgery went great, to be honest, we couldn’t have asked for a better result. We’re all pretty pleased, the team is ready to go, when he’s ready, we’re ready."

Horsfall also shared further good news about Kyrgios' potential recovery time following the surgery, which could help the Australian return to the court much quicker than expected.

“He’s in a knee brace at the moment, he only has movement up to about 70 degrees. We have a post-op appointment today to test where it’s at, but we’ve been talking to the surgeon most days and also the physio. They’re really, really pleased, he might be recovering faster than what we were expecting so it’s good news.”

Horsfall on Kyrgios' recovery

If Kyrgios' recovery continues to go as planned, he could return in early March. As a result, the Australian may be ready for the Indian Wells tournament, which begins on March 6, 2023.

But, despite the recent good news about Kyrgios' surgery and possible recovery time, Horsfall is realistic that the 27-year-old's return could take longer than expected.

“A lot of things players don't get in general is the time to recover. You play all year round. It is disappointing that he's had this surgery but it means two things, he's had his knee cleaned up and is going to be back better than ever. But also, we have this time to get him fitter and stronger than he was this time last year."

Kyrgios withdrew from his Australian Open first-round match against Roman Safiullin due to injury. The Australian has not played since January 13, 2023, an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic.
