Sinner Will 'Be Fit and Ready for Wimbledon' Despite Halle Injury Scare

Jannik Sinner has officially confirmed that he will participate at the 2023 Wimbledon after a previous injury scare at the Halle Open.

Sinner reached the quarter-finals of the Halle Open last week as the world number eight stepped up his preparations for the third Grand Slam of the season. But Sinner was forced to retire early in the second set during his last eight clash against eventual competition winner Alexander Bublik.

The nature of Sinner's injury was unknown and the Italian elected to withdraw from the match without showing too many signs of injury or fatigue during the game against Bublik. Initially, the withdrawal cast doubts over Sinner's entry into Wimbledon, but the 21-year-old officially confirmed that he is ready for SW19 via his Twitter channel.

"Thank you Halle for the opportunity to play last week. Hope to see you next year. Never easy to withdraw, but I had to do what was right for my body in that moment. After a few days rest & consulting my doctor, I’ll be fit and ready for Wimbledon."

Following a disappointing elimination after a five-set marathon match against Daniel Altmaier in the 2023 Roland Garros, Sinner gained some solid momentum early in the grass season. The Italian player reached the quarter-final at the Libema Open before losing against Emil Ruusuvuori and then reached the final eight at Halle.

The 21-year-old's confirmation of fitness for Wimbledon will come as a big relief and the world number eight will ultimately be targetting another deep run at the Grand Slam. Last season, Sinner produced his best-ever performance at Wimbledon when he reached the quarter-final stage but then lost to eventual winner Novak Djokovic.

Sinner led the final eight clash by two sets to love against Djokovic in 2022 before the Serbian produced a stunning comeback against the young Italian.
