Jannik Sinner is still the leader in the 2024 ATP Race to Turin, but in the latest update, his lead is even bigger.
Every year, the players fight for the first eight spots in the ATP Race, as those guarantee a spot in the year-end championship, the ATP Finals. There is also a special rule that would allow a Grand Slam champion in the given year to compete at the ATP Finals even if ranked outside of the Top 8, but luckily for those fighting for that eighth spot, that won't happen this year.
All four Grand Slams were won by only two men. The first and the last major were dominated by Jannik Sinner, and the middle two were won by Carlos Alcaraz, and both of these players have already secured their qualification for the 2024 ATP Finals, meaning the first eight players in the 2024 ATP Race will qualify for the year-end tournament in Turin, held from November 10th to 17th.
Another player that has already secured a spot is Alexander Zverev. While the recent US Open winner Sinner leads the race with exactly 9,000 points, it's the German player who is second with 6,115 to his name.
Right behind the two is Alcaraz with 6,010 points, and behind these three, the race is on for the remaining eight spots at the 2024 ATP Finals. The leader in that race is former World No. 1, Daniil Medvedev, who is fourth in the ATP Race with 4,420 points.
Behind him is a recent US Open finalist, Taylor Fritz, whose final participation in the last major of the season significantly boosted his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals. The American now has 3,890 points.
Casper Ruud also hopes to make it to Turin, but he's in the area where the fight will be the toughest. At the moment, the Norwegian player has 3,795 points in sixth place, not much more than seventh Andrey Rublev, with 3,480.
As it stands, with two months to go, the last player to qualify would be Alex de Minaur, who has 3,305 points. His position could have been much better had he not injured himself at the Wimbledon Championships.
That means that a seven-time champion, who missed the ATP Finals only once from 2007, Novak Djokovic, is currently in the spot, which, without any withdrawals, wouldn't guarantee him a spot at the ATP Finals.
The Serbian legend managed to accumulate 'only' 3,260 points in 2024, which, as of the last update on September 9th, 2024, wouldn't be enough to secure qualification for the 2024 ATP Finals.
Still, the 37-year-old is only 45 points behind the eighth De Minaur, but even though he has a massive advantage in his vast experience, Djokovic is expected to play a much lighter schedule than the rest of the field, further impacting his chances of qualifying.
