'Says More About Him Than About Me': Shapovalov Fires Back At Former Coach After Criticism

| by Zachary Wimer

Denis Shapovalov has hit back at his former coach, Mikhail Youzhny, after he made some interesting comments about the Canadian recently.

There was once a point in time when Denis Shapovalov and Mikhail Youzhny seemed on cloud nine, as the partnership between them was working really well. Shapovalov was always known as a pretty good talent, but he never quite found his way on the ATP Tour.

That seemed to be finally working out to a degree under Youzhny, but it all came crashing down. They split in the meantime, and to make matters worse, the Russian made some comments about Shapovalov that called into question his dedication to the sport.

Shapovalov immediately responded to the comments, calling them awful and reiterating how committed he's been to tennis for the majority of his life. Now he's expanded on that a bit more in a talk with TSN, admitting that the comments made by former coach were a huge surprise to him.

Shapovalov was really reluctant to talk more about it because it's pretty clear that he simply wants to move on from that. He's focused on his career and his comeback after missing a lot of time with injuries in the past year.

I'm not going to waste my time talking about someone else. I'm focused on my career and at the end of the day, honestly, sometimes you just want people to leave you alone. When you're not bothering people, people shouldn't bother you.
