Stefanos Tsitsipas added his name to the list of players who have opposed All England Club's ban on the Russian and Belarusian players.
The All England Club has decided to ban all Russian and Belarusian players from competing in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. However, they have a very difficult time finding support among players.
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and now Tsitsipas are all players who don't think Russian and Belarusian players should be banned from competing in the season's third major tournament.
In a most recent interview at the 2022 Madrid Open, where Tsitsipas is supposed to compete as one of the favorites to win the title at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in the Spanish capital, the Greek player discussed the controversial ban.
"It's not nice that they are not allowed to play, I believe. They have done nothing wrong to be automatically defaulted from the competition."
The Greek player is far from being the only tennis player who opposed the ban in recent days. Rafael Nadal also expressed his reservations, and even one of Great Britain's most successful tennis players, Andy Murray couldn't support the decision.
If the ban persists despite the backlash from some of the players on both the ATP and WTA Tours, the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Aryna Sabalenka, and Victoria Azarenka will all be forced to miss one of the four majors in 2022.
The list of players who would miss out on the London major is much longer than that, as Russia is traditionally one of the tennis powerhouses, and the decision is also likely to see some response from both the ATP and the WTA.
For now, however, it's only the tennis players, who have been quite loud in expressing their opinions about the decision.
