Roger Federer is best known as one of the most iconic tennis players ever but also a dedicated philanthropist.
Many people with the means to do so eventually find themselves doing charity. Roger Federer didn't wait too long to get started, as he was basically a teenager when he began his journey as a philanthropist.
Back in 2003, Federer founded the Roger Federer Foundation with the focus of helping children. The foundation had its first project in South Africa, where his mother hails from.
Most of the projects over the years were focused on Africa as well as Switzerland. Federer has a soft spot for the continent, having roots there.
To mark the 20th anniversary, Federer posted a video on his X profile where he and the CEO talked about the 20-year-long history of the endeavor.
The Roger Federer foundation turns 20 this year. What a milestone. I still remember signing the founding documents on Christmas Eve of 2003 together with my parents. Then at the age of 22, I never could have imagined how incredibly exciting and fulfilling this journey would be.— Federer in the video<br>
The focus for Federer and the foundation was always on the children and education. It's a way to give those kids a chance to change the world and education is the first important step towards that journey. In the video, Federer added that the foundation was able to help 2.5 million children to date.
To date, we have been able to give over 2.5 million children in seven countries better access to preschool education. For me, this is the best anniversary gift I could imagine. I'm immensely proud of every single beneficiary for what they have achieved and what they have done with the little support we have given them.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past two decades. These achievements would not have been possible without.
Federer has spent more time with his foundation since his retirement and plans to make it the focal point of his future work.
