Novak Djokovic was very pleased with his win at the 2022 ATP Finals, especially after a very challenging season.

Djokovic couldn't play as many matches as he would imagine in 2022, and the start of his season was far from ideal. The 35-year-old Serbian didn't play in any tournament until February, when he lost to the World No. 112 player, Jiri Vesely, in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Championships.

He didn't play again until April, when he lost already in the second round in Monte Carlo to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and another loss came against Andrey Rublev in his hometown in Belgrade.

Then, the Serbian started playing more and more matches. He competed in clay-court events in Madrid, Rome, and Paris, where Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal were the only two players to stop him.

Then, he started his winning streak at Wimbledon that wasn't stopped until November, when Holger Rune managed to beat him in the Paris Masters final.

Eventually, Djokovic was able to win the last tournament of the season. He beat everyone at the 2022 ATP Finals, and he was clear about how much the win meant to him. The Serbian player talked to Eurosport, admitting that winning in Turin was very important to him.

"Of course, very satisfying and pleasing considering the journey this year that started really badly in Australia with all the things happening."
"So this victory is even bigger, as I said, considering the circumstances that my team, my family, and I have been through, but I felt I was not alone. I felt big support from my people, from Serbia, from the region."

At times, Djokovic maybe wasn't at his best in 2022, but he was also aware that it was only "a matter of time" before he would find his best tennis again. And it happened.

"It was just a matter of time before I would find that balance and optimal strength in my game in order to really peak and start playing the best tennis I possibly can."
"Midway through the season, that started to happen, and I won Wimbledon, and after Wimbledon, I think I lost one match only. It’s been an amazing finish. I couldn’t ask for a better scenario."
