Gael Monfils enjoyed a fairly successful tennis career, which is slowly but surely coming to an end, yet he doesn't have many regrets.

The 37-year-old is still competing on the ATP Tour, and it's easy to say that he's still worthy of a spot among the best. Just recently, Monfils won the Stockholm Open, proving that he still has what it takes to beat the best.

At 37, there are only two more players ranked inside of the Top 100 older than Monfils. Those two are his compatriot Richard Gasquet and a three-time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka.

For Monfils, being able to play at this age is something that he probably never expected, especially given the physical impact of his demanding play style, which entertains fans. Speaking to The Independent recently, the French player said that this is the period of his career when he can just enjoy himself.

"It’s just crazy to be honest, just crazy, to actually still be playing. You know, I enjoy myself even more now. I have nothing to prove."

When asked about regrets, Monfils didn't have much to share. He's the player who likes to enjoy himself on the tennis court, so enjoying even more would have been something that he would like to do.

"I’ve been super lucky. It would be tough to say I have regrets, honestly. Maybe I could have enjoyed tennis even more."

For the player who enjoys entertaining the crowd, and the loud cheers during the matches, the most challenging period came during the seasons when fans were not allowed at the stadiums because of the pandemic.

Those were also the seasons when the Frenchman didn't manage to win so many matches, and it was mostly because of the quiet atmosphere that didn't provide enough motivation for him.

"It was almost impossible for me to play. I couldn’t have the vibes, nothing."
