'Not Giving Up': Kyrgios Issues Defiant Message About Comeback To Tennis

by Jordan Reynolds

Nick Kyrgios is not giving up on returning to professional tennis, even though he acknowledges that there have been struggles.

Since November 2022, Kyrgios has only played one ATP match. This came on the grass courts of Stuttgart in June of last year during a failed attempt to be fit and ready for Wimbledon.

The Australian has been unsure ever since about when he will return to tennis. Kyrgios did attempt to give a timeline of some kind recently, but even that was not fully clear, which is understandable after so long out.

It is undoubtedly true that the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up brings a unique and fiery personality to the sport. This explains why Kyrgios never wanted to be like Roger Federer, who conducted himself in a different manner.

Although Kyrgios is known by many for his antics that have divided opinion, he has also spoken openly in the past about struggles he has endured. And the 28 year old did this once again in a social media post.

In an Instagram post that can be viewed below, Kyrgios says that the photo in the post makes him think about how hard it has been for him to go through two surgeries since coming so close to winning Wimbledon nearly two years ago.

However, Kyrgios then states very clearly that he is not giving up on returning to tennis. He also turns his physical struggles into a positive by mentioning the new experiences he has been able to have as a result of being injured.

"When I look at this photo, it reminds me of the struggle that I’ve been going through lately, 2 surgeries over the past year and a half after being so close to a Grand slam. Let this be a reminder that I’m not giving up, I’m taking this process day by day and it’s allowed me to take full advantage of other amazing things in my life, opportunities I would never of known if I hadn’t gotten injured."

The Australian finishes the post by encouraging others to take the next step in a positive direction if they are struggling and also to reach out, as everyone feels that way sometimes.

"If you feel like you are struggling or feeling as if you don’t know what’s next, just take the next step you see and make sure it’s in the right direction, reach out at anytime because I assure you we all feel like this sometimes!"
