Daniil Medvedev is eager to etch his name among the greats by securing his fourth consecutive title this Sunday at the 2023 Indian Wells.

The Russian has had a remarkable run, winning titles in Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai in quick succession. With a stunning 19-match winning streak into the Indian Wells final, Medvedev is the first ATP Tour player to reach four straight finals since Andy Murray in 2016.

With his opponent being the talented Carlos Alcaraz, Medvedev's journey to victory will undoubtedly be an enthralling encounter. Medvedev's rapid ascent has him drawing comparisons to the legendary Murray, who accomplished a similar feat during his run of titles in Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna, and Paris seven years ago.

“For sure I like these stats, especially when you do well. Like, you don’t want to be the one who lost the most matches in a row on the ATP Tour or something like this. So for sure when you do well and then you hear some of these stats, it’s just great.”

Medvedev is keenly aware of the significance of these milestones, stating in a post-match interview after his semi-final victory against Frances Tiafoe.

“But at the same time I know that it comes with wins. So first and the most important part is to win. Once you win, you never want to stop. No matter which record maybe I broke… I just want to win tomorrow.”

Medvedev may tie Murray's record of four titles in five weeks with a victory at Indian Wells. Although his run lasted a lengthier seven-week period, another tennis legend, Roger Federer, also accomplished winning four straight tournaments. Federer won in Rotterdam, Dubai, Indian Wells, and Miami during his winning streak in 2005.

“Yeah, it’s just great sometimes when you beat some records or become world No 1 or win a slam that you know that when you’re 70 you can still say, ‘Yeah, I remember the year when I made four finals in a row. That’s great. But in the moment, it doesn’t matter for me. The most important is to try to win this tournament and to win these matches.”
