Daniil Medvedev can rewrite history at the Indian Wells Open this year, as he will play in his fourth consecutive final.

Medvedev has enjoyed great success in recent weeks. He won the titles in Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai, and he also reached the final at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells.

The Russian player's semi-final win over Frances Tiafoe means that he is currently on a 19-match winning streak, and one match away from winning his fourth consecutive title.

He became the first ATP player to reach four straight finals since Andy Murray did it in 2016. The British player won titles in Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna, and Paris seven years ago.

Medvedev's final opponent will be talented Carlos Alcaraz, so winning another title might be challenging for the Russian player, but he's excited about the challenge.

Speaking after beating Tiafoe, Medvedev admitted that even though he doesn't focus on the records, he is happy to be close to matching this legendary achievement. At the same time, the only thing that he focuses on is winning the final match.

"For sure, I like these stats, especially when you do well. Like, you don’t want to be the one who lost the most matches in a row on the ATP Tour or something like this. So for sure when you do well and then you hear some of these stats, it’s just great."
"But at the same time, I know that it comes with wins. So, first and the most important part is to win. Once you win, you never want to stop. No matter which record maybe I broke… I just want to win tomorrow."

Roger Federer is another player who managed to win four consecutive tournaments. Federer won in Rotterdam, Dubai, Indian Wells, and Miami back in 2005.

Medvedev admitted that having such historic runs is great for him also because he will be able to look back on it once he is retired.

"Yeah, it’s just great sometimes when you beat some records or become world No. 1 or win a slam, that you know that when you’re 70, you can still say, 'Yeah, I remember the year when I made four finals in a row.' That’s great. But in the moment, it doesn’t matter for me. The most important is to try to win this tournament and to win these matches."
