'Matter Of Time When We Get Grand Slam': Rune's Mother Confident In Her Son

The mother of Holger Rune believes it's only a matter of time before her son finally fulfills his goal of winning a Grand Slam.

Holger Rune had his major breakout last year with some amazing performances throughout the year. It all culminated during the European Indoor season where he won a couple of trophies including the Stockholm Open and the Paris Masters.

The latter came after he beat Novak Djokovic in the final which was a huge win for Rune and it allowed him to debut in the Top 10 on the ATP Tour. Since then, it's been a steady rise further to the top, but he's yet to win a Grand Slam.

His mother, Aneke Rune, spoke to the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, admitting that, slowly but surely, Rune is fulfilling his goals.

Now we all wish to get step-by-step, the same when we started senior, then he [Holger Rune] wanted to win 15,000 and then 25,000 and then it was Challengers. And then it was ATP 250, Masters 1000 and now it's Grand Slams. He really wants to win Grand Slams.

And it’s not just something you do, it's not that easy. So you have to work on specific things in your game and your physique in order to be able to manage five sets. If you want to win, you really have to be good.

Not just in four but in seven matches, which is the challenge, so this is what he is working on. But every time Holger puts up a goal, then he reaches his goal. So it's just a matter of time when we get the Grand Slam I guess.

He went empty-handed this year, but perhaps next year will be the year he finally takes the next step. There is plenty of time for him as he's still very young.
