Holger Rune is clearly following what's being posted about him, and that enabled him to see that one publication was posting a very old quote of his.
The 20-year-old is quite an active social media user, at least compared to Jannik Sinner, who doesn't like it. The Danish player uses X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts often and sometimes even engages in some banter.
That's what happened recently when Eurosport posted an old quote of his. The quote in question had Rune express his admiration for Novak Djokovic, who he trained with a few times during his junior career.
"Djokovic said many good things to me. It's always Federer and Nadal who are named as the good guys, but when it comes to future generations, I think Djokovic gives the most."
The quote is a pretty decent one from Rune, and it's somewhat true. Many young players express admiration for Djokovic and how he gave them tips. It's a story we've heard many times, including from the recent Next Gen ATP Finals champion, Hamad Medjedovic.
Even so, Rune found it funny that Eurosport dug up that quote because it's a pretty old one. He said it back in 2021, which he pointed out in his response. The response also featured him teasing the publication about possibly being dry on the news.
"Something I said in 2021 low on news Eurosport??"
While competing at the 2024 Montpellier Open, the young Dane seemingly found some time to hop into the social media whirl, and noticing an old quote made him wonder whether the publication had nothing else to write about.
His results in the French city were certainly interesting enough, even though Rune was forced to retire from his semifinal match against Borna Coric.
