Nick Kyrgios will find himself in a very different court next month after he was charged for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend.

Kyrgios is currently competing at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships when news broke out that he was facing one charge of "common assault" relating to an incident that happened in December 2021.

The 27-year-old's legal team is aware of the allegations and has spoken to the Canberra Times on his behalf, acknowledging that the Australian tennis star takes the issue very seriously.

"The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr. Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously. Given the matter is before the court, he doesn’t have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time, we’ll issue a media release."

Kyrgios' lawyer Pierre Johannessen also issued a statement stating that "the allegations are not considered as fact by the court" and that the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion "is not considered charged with an offence until the first appearance".

Kyrgios will have to appear in Court next month in Canberra for a charge related to an incident that has been reported by Australian outlets of him grabbing his former partner last December.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to follow what Kyrgios says to the media after his quarterfinal match against Cristain Garin. He's been playing some of his best tennis on his run to the last eight of a major in singles just a few weeks after proclaiming himself the best player on grass.

Kyrgios has never reached the semifinal of a Grand Slam (singles) but will be a major favorite against the Chilean.

ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021.
