Jannik Sinner is undefeated in 2024 with 15 consecutive wins, so what can Jiri Lehecka do to stop him at the 2024 Indian Wells Open?
Nobody played better tennis than Sinner this year. With the win over Ben Shelton, Sinner has 15 consecutive wins in 2024 with two trophies, one of which is the Australian Open.
He's in the quarter-final of the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament, with a pretty good chance to win his third trophy this year. Standing between him and the semi-final is Jiri Lehecka, a player who is having a good week.
Lehecka ousted Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round quite easily, so Sinner will have to take this matchup pretty seriously. I don't think he'll be too bothered by it because he's just playing on such an amazing level right now.
Head-to-head:
Sinner and Lehecka have played only once so far, and it happened back in 2019 at the ATP Challenger in Ostrava. The Italian was far more known back then, and he easily won that match 6-4 6-2.
I don't think things will look that much different this time around because the gap between them might even be bigger. Lehecka is a solid player with a good serve and powerful forehand, but he's nowhere near the level of Sinner right now, who has been the undisputable best player this year.
The main issue for the Czech player is not a lack of weapons; he has good enough weapons, but it's consistency.
Jannik Sinner | Jiri Lehecka | |
1 | H2H | 0 |
3 | Rank | 32 |
22 | Age | 22 |
15-0 | 2024 W/L | 13-6 |
205-74 | Career W/L | 60-53 |
Prediction:
Lehecka is nowhere near as consistent from the baseline as Sinner, and even when he finds his best tennis, it's not on that level. With how confident the Italian looks in his game, I just don't see him faltering here. Lehecka could keep it close but not win.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in two sets.
