Novak Djokovic admitted during his stay at Wimbledon that he's not at his best, but Carlos Alcaraz's coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, is not underestimating him because he's seen him play well.
The Serbian is likely not at 100% at this year's Wimbledon simply because he had meniscus surgery a couple of weeks ago. Even though Djokovic made a crazy recovery to find himself at Wimbledon, the injury did not heal that quickly.
Not only did he make it to SW19, but he's been playing really well and is only one match away from making the final once more. There is a decent chance fans will see him in the final, and he might face Alcaraz, who beat him in the final last year.
The 37-year-old might not be at his best, but Ferrero is too smart to underestimate Djokovic because of that. Even when he's not at 100%, he's still one of the best players on the ATP Tour, capable of beating anybody and winning any event.
That's why the Spaniard admitted to Marca that he's seen Djokovic play well, so he doesn't consider his limitations on the court.
"He's (Djokovic's) made a record-breaking recovery. I think he's doing pretty well, but he says he's far from being at his best. He's in the semi-finals at the moment. I've seen him move pretty well."
If they find themselves there, the Spaniard will likely prepare Alcaraz very well for the final, and it would be a hugely exciting rematch after last year's Wimbledon final. That was a historic final, which Alcaraz won, though Djokovic was inches away from winning it himself.
He's surely motivated to get his revenge this year, but the Spaniard won't give it away that easily. After all, persistence is what won him the trophy last year.
