Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios played a high-quality third-round match full of drama at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, and both had a lot to say afterward.
The match had everything. Beautiful rallies, tons of emotions, and a loud crowd getting behind both players. However, it also featured moments that a fan doesn't really want to see on a tennis court.
Everything started when Tsitsipas hit the ball in anger after losing the second set. It went into the stands, and Kyrgios wanted his opponent to be disqualified from the match.
That started a series of events. Tsitsipas hit one more ball into the crowd, and he even aimed some of his shots at Kyrgios. Ultimately, the Australian player proved to be better, winning the match 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7), and he didn't seem to be too bothered by what happened on the court immediately after.
However, Tsitsipas had different ideas. Speaking after the match, the Greek player wasn't happy about his behavior on the court, but he also claimed that it was triggered by his opponent.
"It was really bad from my side. For his part, all the circus show going on on the other side of the net started to become very tiring. It didn't hit any people, thank God."
"For sure, I'm never doing that again. But something created that behavior. You get tired of it. The constant talking. The constant complaining. We're there to play tennis, not to have dialogues."
According to Tsitsipas, Kyrgios bullies his opponents. The Greek player really didn't have any filter after the match, saying that Kyrgios has "an evil side."
"It's constant bullying. He bullies opponents. He was probably a bully in school, too... He has a very evil side to him. This needs to stop. It's not okay. Someone needs to sit down with him and talk. I cannot just sit there and act like a robot."
