Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed the World No. 1 rank after beating Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final, and he called it a dream come true again.
Alcaraz first became the World No. 1 player after winning the US Open, and it seems like winning trophies on US soil is a requirement for him to be ranked number one. He did it again after lifting the trophy in Indian Wells, and he was happy about it.
"Well, it feels great to be back on the No. 1, you know. Of course, every player on the ATP wants to be No. 1, and for me, it's a dream come true again. Obviously being in front of such great players like Novak, like the top players, for me, it's an amazing feeling."
Despite being ranked as the World No. 1 player, Alcaraz refused to name himself the best player in the world, explaining that to be the best, you have to also beat the best, so he mentioned the absence of Novak Djokovic. He wants to play Djokovic on the court and see who is better.
"Novak is one of the best players in the world. That's obvious. You know, I will say that if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. I really wanted to play against Novak again. We miss him on tour, and hopefully to have him back very, very soon. But yeah, of course, it could be amazing to play against him again."
It will be a while before Alcaraz can play Djokovic on a court because the Serbian player won't be in Miami, where the Spaniard will play next. The first event in the calendar which will feature both is the Monte-Carlo Masters.
For now, Alcaraz will move to Miami, where he's the defending champion after winning the trophy last year.
