Much to the despair of Rafael Nadal's fans worldwide, the Spaniard is going through a painful period of injury at the present time.
As previously revealed, the man from Mallorca needed injections to be able to fulfill his lifelong dream of winning an unprecedented 14th Roland Garros men's singles title.
With this now being history, Nadal is trying his best to recover from the same injury in order to be able to compete at the All England Club.
On Tuesday, he received therapy for the injured nerves in his foot, with his medical staff hopeful of a return to the courts as soon as this weekend following this treatment.
Resting in his home Balearic island of Mallorca, he was seen stepping out of a car on crutches on Wednesday. Despite this, doctor Angel Ruiz-Cotorro's spirits seem high with regard to the Spaniard's chances of coming back on time.
"The objective is that this does not last any longer and that he can play Wimbledon. It seems to me a spectacular thing, it would be a miracle for any normal person, but he is able to do it because he really is a different person."
"It's no longer that they numb your foot so you don't have pain and suddenly you can compete, it's accepting that challenge and then isolating yourself from all that feeling to later give you the opportunity to play several games with those conditions, also against very high level rivals."
"Coming in addition to the rib problem that had prevented him from having the proper preparation and rhythm of matches that he wanted. These things can only be done by Rafa."
It will certainly be a mental battle more than a physical one for the man from Manacor if he is to compete with a numb foot, but mental strength is where he excels.
Despite not being the outright favorite for the title, anything can happen when Nadal is fighting; if he gets a couple of match wins under his belt, anything is possible.
