Following the USA's overwhelming victory over Great Britain in the late-night Davis Cup Group D match in Glasgow, Jack Sock referred to playing against Andy Murray in his native country as "electric."
Tommy Paul defeated Dan Evans to start off the USA's campaign, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. But Great Britain was saved by World No. 8 Cameron Norrie, who defeated Taylor Fritz 2-6, 7-6(2), 7-5. In a thrilling doubles encounter between Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury of Great Britain and Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock of the United States, it was the American who prevailed.
"We were playing against one of the biggest legends of the game, playing in his home country. It was an electric atmosphere, and we stuck it out and got the win." said Jack Sock.
US Team Captain, Bob Bryan was also stunned by the match calling it a classic:
"Oh man, that was an instant classic. We knew it was going to be a barn-burner. The courts are slow and we expected physical matches. Our guys were playing great in practice but know those guys have been here a while and they're really dialled in. The crowd was great, and we're just happy to get through. We've got some more tough times ahead, and I expect Team GB is going to do the business in their matches."
The USA will have defeated Great Britain for the first time since 1999 with this victory. They will play Kazakhstan on Thursday and now rank second to the Netherlands in terms of percentage of games won.
