Jack Sock reflected on getting to play against Andy Murray in Glasgow during the 2022 Davis Cup Finals.
Tommy Paul defeated Daniel Evans 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the first singles match of the tie to give Team USA a needed lead. But Great Britain was saved by the ATP World No. 8 Cameron Norrie, who defeated Taylor Fritz 2-6, 7-6(2), 7-5.
With the score tied at 1-1, a doubles match had to decide the tie. Maybe a bit surprisingly, Andy Murray was nominated for the British team alongside Joe Salisbury.
On the other hand, the US team nominated doubles specialists Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock. Ultimately, the American team proved to be better as they managed to win the match 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
For Sock, the win meant a lot, as he represented his country. At the same time, the American player enjoyed taking on Murray, especially because of the atmosphere in Glasgow.
"We were playing against one of the biggest legends of the game, playing in his home country. It was an electric atmosphere, and we stuck it out and got the win."
USA's Team Captain, Bob Bryan, also enjoyed the match from the bench. As one half of arguably the greatest doubles duo of all time, Bryan was happy to see his team decide the tie on the doubles court.
"Oh man, that was an instant classic. We knew it was going to be a barn-burner. The courts are slow, and we expected physical matches. Our guys were playing great in practice, but know those guys have been here a while, and they're really dialled in."
"The crowd was great, and we're just happy to get through. We've got some more tough times ahead, and I expect Team GB is going to do the business in their matches."
In their next tie, Team USA will take on Kazakhstan on Thursday. Currently, they are second in their group, only behind the Netherlands.
