'I'm Not Unhappy': Murray Shares Immediate Thoughts After Retirement

| by Zachary Wimer

Andy Murray is officially a former tennis player, having retired from the sport, and he shared his immediate reaction, saying that he was not unhappy.

The British player, after his hip surgery, looked like a man who seemed very miserable without tennis in his life. There was no other way to explain a guy pushing himself through all that to play tennis.

He didn't need the money or the legacy because he had plenty of both. Still, he pushed through, but now, he is retired from professional tennis, and he does not feel as miserable as it seemed like he would be.

He was content with his choice, and that shouldn't be a huge surprise because he admitted it. He said that his body was ready to retire, which was also obvious, given how much he struggled to keep up on the ATP Tour.

He also said that his mind was ready, making it clear that after all those years, he was really ready to retire. He has enjoyed this final week of competition, but for the most part, he was content with making the decision.

"I feel good. Obviously I knew this moment was coming for the last few months, whether we we’d lost a few days ago or we’d got to the final, I was ready for it. I’ve got some time to do what I want now. I’m not unhappy, I’m not upset I’m not playing tennis anymore."

"When I thought about this time coming in the last couple of years, I was sad and worried about it, so far it’s been a lot easier than I thought, I know it’s only been a day, than I expected."

It was good to hear Murray was content with his decision, but this isn't anything new for him or anybody else. Most tennis players fear the moment of retiring, but when it comes to that, most are at peace with it.

For Murray, it was most important that he finished on his own terms. The run in Paris was decent, which certainly adds to his comfort when it comes to retiring.

In the end, it was an iconic career, and he's got nothing to regret. It could have been better; not everything was perfect, but the end was fitting, and he's quite happy with the way things unfolded.

"The week was amazing, I felt that way as well, after the match I chatted a bit with Dan with about it about the week in general and how the Olympics has been for all of us."

"We’ve had an amazing time an brilliant memories, and we could have easily lost in the first round, we’ve had a brilliant week, would have wanted to play better yesterday, but a great run."
