In the run-up to the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Nick Kyrgios is gaining more and more plaudits.

Despite finishing up second best to Andy Murray in the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open, the man from Down Under had an impressive tournament showcasing just what he can do when on grass courts.

Having played his last tournament before that in Houston in April, the Australian hit the ground running in Germany in what was his first taste of grass-court competition this year.

Performances like he has shown us over the course of the past week have earned him accolades from the sport's best, with many pipping him to go far at Wimbledon this time out.

On paper, the Grand Slam at the All England Club has been his most successful, and that is not something that has gone unnoticed for ex-pro turned pundit Todd Woodbridge. During Sports Sunday, he fancied Kyrgios' chances.

"Interestingly with him, he lost in straight sets here [in Stuttgart] to Andy Murray. Nick is actually trained and focused on this season, so this is a good start to the grass-court season."
"If there's any player in the field, outside of Novak, that can play well-enough and beat everybody on grass, it's Nick. So it's about how does he deals with expectations. He has a legitimate chance to go deep at Wimbledon."

It is certainly high praise coming from someone like Woodbridge, who recognizes the well-suited game that Kyrgios possesses for the grass.

This is not the first time that the Aussie has been linked with a potentially stellar run at Wimbledon, with big names already reckoning his chances on the SW19 grass.

In terms of preparing for the year's third Slam, Mallorca awaits Kyrgios now, who will head to the Balearic Islands in search of going deeper than he managed in Stuttgart.
