Recently, Nick Kyrgios took part in a charity basketball game for ailing children in Sydney, Australia which helped to raise money.
In the Sydney Kings' charity match at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday, Kyrgios faced off against other prominent Australians, including NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Miss Universe Australia 2020 Maria Thatti.
The Australian clearly dominated the basketball court, as it's one of his favorite sports, which he often enjoys when he doesn't practice on the tennis court. That's why his skill showed during the exhibition charity match, as most of the participants had much less experience when it comes to basketball.
During an appearance on Fox Sports on Tuesday night, former NBL player Steve Carfino called the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion 'a j*rk'.
However, in a recent interview with Studio 10, his opponent in the celebrity game, Tristan MacManus, defended Kyrgios, saying that it was the tennis player who delivered exactly what the fans wanted to see.
"This event was very important event for Starlight Australia. Nick Kyrgios gave the fans there everything that they needed to see. This was a celebrity game, a fun game, but it's also a game that needed to raise some money. And there was a lot of people that gave up their time, not just to play in the game, but to come and watch the game."
According to MacManus, without the Australian tennis player, the match wouldn't have such success, and that's also why he went on to call Kyrgios 'awesome.'
"I don't think half as many eyes would have been on the game if Nick Kyrgios wasn't there. Granted! Nick Kyrgios is awesome. Basketball is his favourite game, and if he would decide not to play, he could get a contract in basketball team. Nick Kyrgios is not a j*rk. A jerk would not come out to play a game to raise 50 thousand dollars. Everyone took the game seriously, he just had the talent to back it up."
