Nick Kyrgios had a chance to stop
Novak Djokovic from winning
Wimbledon last year, but he failed, yet he still thinks only he can stop him in London.
Stopping Djokovic at Wimbledon is borderline impossible.
Nick Kyrgios knows it well, as he tried it last year but failed like so many before. The Serbian now has 7 Wimbledon trophies and he'll try to equal Roger Federer in a month with an 8th.
There will be
only one player in the Wimbledon draw who has ever beaten him on grass, and that's Andy Murray. Some took a set off him last year, such as Norrie and Kyrgios, but the latter thinks that only he can beat him at the event. He confirmed as much during an interview at the Stuttgart Open.
"No one, no. If it’s not me, no one."
He'll need to play a lot better than he did in his return, as
it wasn't a pretty sight. It's
unlikely that Kyrgios will hit the same level as he did last year, but fans would love to see it.
Djokovic is certainly the number one favourite,
especially after what he did at Roland Garros recently. Kyrgios himself lauded Djokovic for what he did, admitting that he wants to see him get to 30 because it will make him look better.
"I hope he gets 30 [Grand Slam titles], it would make me look better because I lost to him at Wimbledon (smiling). But yeah, it’s an amazing achievement. I know how hard he works, how much it means to him obviously. Obviously missing out on some Grand Slams as well, not being able to get in the country sometimes and obviously that time in Australia."
"I know that he’d probably be on like 25 or 26 [majors] at the moment [if he had not missed Grand Slams], so I know that he is hungry. People think he will slow down, I think it’ll only make him more motivated to get more. So I hope he gets to 28, 30."
