When competing at the highest level, athletes often need to get into 'the zone' and that often makes them look different from regular people.
Adrenaline is pumping through the veins of athletes in the heat of a battle, which may cause scenes that aren't explainable to a regular person. However, tennis players on the court usually act much differently than they do in their private lives, contrary to popular belief. Nick Kyrgios discussed this during a recent interview with Julian Petroulas when he said:
"Me now vs. when I'm on the tennis court, it's a show. I'm a completely different person like I literally snap to a different guy and I hate that person because it's not me. He's arrogant," Kyrgios said.
However, explaining why he thinks it's reasonable, the Australian added: "But on the court, I think you should believe that you're the best tennis player ever to walk the earth. I feel that's why I got there."
"When I'm off the court I'm able to disconnect and I'm so different, I'm a lot calmer," he admitted. "The way I act on the tennis court makes me money, it's crazy, it's different. But then I don't have to be that person anymore."
Talking about how people often think he acts in the private life in the same way he does on the court, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist said:
"I meet people every day and they expect me to do something crazy. And I'm like 'dude I'm actually normal'. Even when I'm out, they just think I'm just crazy dude," Kyrgios concluded.
