Carlos Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero is the latest figure to question the extent of Novak Djokovic's injury at the 2023 Australian Open.
On the way to a 10th career win at the Australian Open in January, it was reported that Djokovic was playing in the competition with a torn hamstring. Australian Open director Craig Tiley first explained the injury publically, but it has not been verified yet.
However, people continue to question how serious the injury was and former French Open winner Ferrero has joined the group who are sceptical of Djokovic's potential hamstring tear.
"I am not going to call Djokovic a liar, but I will only say that I find it difficult.”
In addition, Ferrero had doubts about the way Djokovic played throughout the tournament as the Serbian didn't show any clear signs of injury. But the former Spanish player did also congratulated Djokovic on his 22nd Grand Slam title.
"I see it as difficult, if it were so, Djokovic would move as he did. Obviously if he has the ability to withstand brutal pain, which may be, good for him and he deserved to win."
Since winning the Australian Open, Djokovic has not returned to the court. However, the Serbian is set to feature at the Dubai Tennis Championships next week, which he won in 2022.
Djokovic has also dismissed ongoing questioning about his recent injury and the 35-year-old is trying not to focus on the speculation.
"I really do not have the time, energy, or will to deal with every story that appears on the internet, or what someone says about something,"
