Hubert Hurkacz joined the winners' circle in 2023 after he lifted the trophy at the Marseille Open, beating Benjamin Bonzi in the final.

In 2019, the Polish player won his first ATP Tour-level title in Winston-Salem. He wasn't able to follow up on that win in 2020, but since 2021, he has won a title every year, and that now includes 2023 as well.

In 2021, Hurkacz triumphed in Delray Beach, Miami, and Metz. Last year, he lifted a trophy in Halle, and now, he added his second trophy on the French soil, winning the Marseille Open.

He entered the tournament as the top seed, and he played like a top seed. Hurkacz had a first-round bye, but then he bested Leandro Riedi, Mikael Ymer, and Alexander Bublik to reach the final of the ATP 250 tournament.

His final opponent Bonzi, on the other hand, enjoyed one of the best weeks of his life. He beat Luca van Assche in the first round, then he eliminated the fifth-seeded Maxime Cressy, before also stunning the third-seeded Alex de Minaur. His compatriot Arthur Fils also lost to Bonzi, as he set up the final meeting with Hurkacz.

In the final, the Polish player started with a break of serve, leading 4-1 after five games played, but that wasn't enough to win him the opening set of the match.

He actually lost the one-break advantage, as Bonzi served to make it 4-4. Hurkacz, however, was able to immediately break back, and then serve out the first set to win it 6-3.

In the second set, Hurkacz put together a serving masterclass. He hit an incredible 14 aces, but that didn't help him avoid facing three break points, which were at 5-6, so they were also set points.

Still, the top seed saved all three to force a tie-break. He started that tie-break with a mini-break, and since both players held their serve from then, Hurkacz won the final match 6-3, 7-6(4), lifting the trophy in Marseille.
