Andy Murray predicted that Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev would become the ATP World No. 1 players more than a year ago, and he was right.
The ATP often records various videos in which they ask players different questions. Sometimes, it's about their private life or their preferences, but often, players are asked to make predictions.
Of course, not many of those predictions come true. Players are sometimes even asked to make the predictions "bold," which makes it more difficult for them to be correct. But when they are then correct, it gets a lot of attention.
The same happened to Andy Murray. The British player was asked to make a prediction about who might become the World No. 1 on the ATP Tour in the future. The interview with ATPTour.com happened in Cincinnati in 2021.
The British player guessed that Daniil Medvedev could become the highest-ranked player. His guess came to reality only a few months later, as the Russian player climbed up to the top spot in February 2022.
"Of the current ones Medvedev would be the guy I would expect to get there first. I think maybe he will need to be a little bit more consistent on the clay to get there, but I think he’s got a good chance."
Since Medvedev was already an established player at the time, Murray wanted to make also a bit bolder prediction. He picked one of the "young ones." More than a year ago, the Brit predicted Carlos Alcaraz to reach the top of the rankings, and again, he was right.
"From the young, young ones, I think [Carlos] Alcaraz is really, really good. I think he’s got a good chance at it. I would probably say Alcaraz if I had to pick one from the young guys."
