Holger Rune hasn't had much success in tennis lately, but he's eyeing an ATP Finals qualification despite all of it.
Despite not playing that well lately, Rune did put together some really solid results earlier in the year, which allows him to remain in the race to the Finals in Turin. Rune currently sits at number 10 in the race, within striking distance of securing a spot there.
It won't be easy, mostly because he's not really playing that well, and it's unclear whether he will start playing well in the coming weeks. He had a really strong finish to last year due to the way his tennis fits on indoor hard courts so there is reason to be optimistic.
It doesn't mean that he'll be able to do it again but he's certainly hopeful of it. Making the ATP Finals would be his first time at the event and it's a goal. He talked about it in a recent ATP Tennis Podcast episode.
Firstly my mind is to get back to my level and from there start improving again. It would be great to say that after a good, and then not a good year, to at least say that I finished in Turin. Like always, it's stil to be the best in the world. I'll just try to do everything as good, so I give myself a good chance this year.
He will compete with a couple of players for those final few spots, and it should make for an exciting finish to the season. His next event is the Stockholm Open, where he will be the defending champion, having beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final last year.
That's a good chance for him to earn some big points in his pursuit for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin in November.
