Fritz Set To Exit Top 10 After USA's Failed United Cup Title Defense

Taylor Fritz has been part of the Top 10 on the ATP Tour for a while, but the American is set to drop out of it after being eliminated from the 2024 United Cup.

The American has been around the top for a while now but really solidified his level in 2023. He spent the entire year in the Top 10, becoming world number 5 at one point but finishing at number 10.

After some bad performances at the World Tennis League in Dubai, Fritz didn't look too great in Australia either. He was part of the competition-winning team last year, but this year, the USA Team failed to really play on the same level and are out of the competition before even making the knock-out stages.

They won't defend their trophy, and losing points will cost Fritz his Top-10 ranking. For the first time in over a year, the American is set to drop out of the Top 10.

Fritz played two matches at the United Cup, beating Cameron Norrie in the first tie but losing the crucial one to Alex de Minaur in the second one. That loss ultimately cost the team qualification as they placed second in the ranking of the second-placed teams behind China due to the match win-loss record.

They had a 3-3 record, while China had 4-2, and that proved their undoing. If Fritz had won that match, the US would have beaten Australia and finished at the top of the group. The loss also cost him the ranking, which is unfortunate as he looked like the best American man last year.

The start of 2024 hasn't been very good for him, but we'll see how he does in Melbourne. It's been a solid event for him in the best, and a good result could push him back into the Top 10.
