Less than 24 hours before his first-round match at the 2023 Australian Open, Novak Djokovic called off yet another practice.
There haven't been many people more successful at the Australian Open than Djokovic, as he's the record title holder in the Open Era with nine triumphs at the Grand Slam in Melbourne.
However, ahead of his 18th participation and attempt to win his tenth title, Djokovic is facing problems as he's seemingly struggling with an injury, which is preventing him from preparing ideally for the tournament.
Previously, the 35-year-old withdrew from a practice match against Daniil Medvedev, as he's been bothered by a hamstring injury that he picked up during his victorious week in Adelaide.
Now, less than a day before he's set to play in Melbourne for the first time since 2021, Djokovic canceled another practice.
The 21-time Grand Slam champion was supposed to start the practice in Melbourne at 7 PM local time, but it was canceled, and concerns were raised about his participation at the event and whether he may be nursing an injury.
That is becoming more and more apparent, and it will be interesting to follow whether he follows Carlos Alcaraz in withdrawing from the tournament, or pushes through and attempts to play.
However, the fact that Djokovic is present in Melbourne suggests that he thinks he may be able to compete, and his fans will keep their fingers crossed.
UPDATE: A few hours after his scheduled practice, Djokovic appeared on the tennis court, but with his left leg strapped. His physical condition will be closely followed throughout the tournament as he's the biggest favorite to win the title.
Knowing that Djokovic will be playing injured may be beneficial to other players, who may attempt to take advantage of his injury, which only he knows the real extent of.
