Djokovic shirt sold at Austrian auction with proceeds going to Kosovo

A shirt worn by winning machine Novak Djokovic in his unbeaten start to the tennis year has been sold at a charity auction in Austria.
The Serbian, who returned to the World No.1 sport following his recent Australian Open win - his tenth - could be seen during the Melbourne fortnight sporting a dynamic two-shade blue Lacoste tennis shirt in every match, and one of these tops sold for 11,000 euros at an event in Austrian capital Vienna on Friday, February 10.
Although the man from Belgrade was not in attendance himself, his wife Jelena was there representing the Novak Djokovic Foundation (ND), a charity the married couple set up to work for the betterment of children's education in Serbia, as well as sends help to any part of the world that is going through a crisis.
Jelena took to social media to reveal how the jersey was auctioned and added that all the money raised would be going to the children in the city of Kosovska Mitrovica, which lies in the Republic of Kosovo. The partially recognized state in Southeast Europe shares its border with Serbia in the north and east.
She wrote on Instagram:
"The jersey was sold for 11,000e and all the money goes to Kosovska Mitrovica to increase the capacity of kindergarten for our children.
"Thank you, Aco for the wonderful words about our charity work and Novak's success," she added.
Speaking recently about ND Foundation foundation, former Indian player Somdev Devvarman, who interviewed Djokovic after his Australian Open victory, was quick to praise the 22-time Grand Slam champion for his charitable nature.
Devvarman said:
"Whenever there are floods in Serbia or somewhere in the world, Novak is there. When there are fires in Australia, Novak is there. When Ukraine needs support and Sergiy Stakhovsky reaches out, Novak is there. Where there's fundraisers, Novak is there."
